About Raffles Outreach Programme
A service-learning programme specially designed to enhance our commitment to civic responsibility among the pupils. It furthers the school’s mission of “A School That Serves”.
Mission
To nurture every Rafflesian girl into a socially responsible individual through the provision of meaningful opportunities for each girl to perform a valuable, significant and necessary service which address the real needs of the community.
Goals
The Raffles Outreach works towards the promotion of a “caring and sharing” school in which opportunities are created to:
- Build the students’ self esteem and leadership skills & develop a sense of belonging.
- Teach life skills and values for citizenship, including compassion, respect, regard for human worth & dignity, tolerance, appreciation of human diversity & a desire for social justice.
- Nurture Students into socially responsible individuals who actively engage themselves in enhancing the well-being of the community.
- Learn beyond the classroom – reflect on & learn from the challenges & rewards which flow from service experiences.
- Foster communication between the school & community-based organizations through collaborative activities
What is service-learning?
- A structured learning and teaching approach that embodies four key characteristics:
- Meaningful engagement of students in service that meets real community needs.
- Identification of learning outcomes to link the students’ service experiences to the school curriculum.
- Preparation of students mentally and physically for the service tasks.
- Provision of a structured process for students’ reflection.
About OSL
2007
Overseas Service Learning (OSL) is part of the Service Learning programme organised by Raffles Girl’s School (Secondary). We are a team of 23 Secondary 3 and 10 Secondary 4 students who will be going to Cambodia to interact with the students of selected schools there at the end of the year.
Throughout the year, we will be fundraising so that we can have sufficient funds to purchase computers and projectors for a secondary school in Cambodia as we plan to introduce better technology there. Besides fundraising, we will also be attending workshops to prepare us for lessons there.
